Sometimes stone preserves a story. Other times, it simply invites us to imagine one.
Echoes in Stone brings together two stones gathered along Lake Michigan, each carrying markings that make you stop and look a little closer.
The upper stone holds a visible fossil impression — a remnant of ancient life preserved within rock long before the Great Lakes landscape existed as we know it today. Below, a smooth skipping stone carries natural markings that almost seem to form a face, an accidental portrait created through mineral, water, weather, and our own imagination.
Between them, hand-shaped silver-toned wire twists and turns like a thread connecting past and present. An entirely silver-toned palette keeps the design intentionally simple, allowing the remarkable natural details of the stones to remain the focus.
It's a piece about memory, interpretation, and the traces left behind — some real, some imagined, and all part of the story we discover when we stop long enough to look.
“The earth leaves echoes everywhere. Some we recognize. Others ask us to imagine.”
